What a historic moment!

Never before has Parliament voted in favour of fair votes and proportional representation - until this week.

Members of Parliament backed a Liberal Democrat Bill to introduce electoral reform - winning a vote in the House of Commons, despite 78 Conservative and 50 Labour MPs voting to block it.

We know that the First Past the Post system is broken. It means that millions of people’s voices are not heard, increasing disillusionment with politics.

And at this year’s election, it produced the most disproportionate result in our history - with a Labour Government winning two-thirds of the seats on one-third of the vote.

Liberal Democrats will always be the leading voice making the case for proportional representation. We’ve used our role as the largest third party in Parliament in a century to put it right back on the political agenda - and this week’s vote is a major step forward.

Now we are pushing Labour to honour the will of Parliament and make time for the Bill to complete its passage. And at Prime Minister’s Questions this week, Ed Davey called on Keir Starmer to back our Bill

You can help us show Keir Starmer and Labour just how much support exists for fixing our broken voting system, by signing our petition for fair votes: Fair Votes Now - Liberal Democrats

This is a hugely significant step as we fight for fair votes - now let’s get this Labour Government to finally support proportional representation!
