Three good reasons to vote Liberal Democrat on May 6th

April 30, 2021 11:04 AM

8fr3The County Council elections take place next Thursday the 6th May. Probably not the most important thing on your mind in these difficult times. Indeed you may not have given it any thought at all!

Local politics however does matter and effects how your children are educated, how social care is provided and what sort of environment we live in.

If you have yet to make up your mind about whether to vote at all or who to vote for here are three good reasons for voting Liberal Democrat

First you will be represented by hard-working local candidates who are committed to their local community. If you already have a Liberal Democrat councillor you will know that they put people before politics and get things done. Your local candidates can be viewed here

Second. You will elect councillors who will focus on actions to address the climate emergency and will seek to protect our local environment. It is no coincidence that the latest data for 2020 on recycling shows that four of the top five local authorities with the highest recycling rates are led by Liberal Democrats with the top spot was taken by the Liberal Democrat-led Three Rivers District Council in Hertfordshire where 64.1% of household waste was reused, recycled or composted.

It was also good to see Chelmsford Council which was taken by the Liberal Democrats nearly two years ago had the highest proportion of organic/green waste comprising 71 per cent of their total recycled 'household waste'.You can read the full report at Statistics on waste managed by local authorities 2019 (publishing.service.gov.uk)

Third. Suffolk has been badly run by a Conservative administration and Police Commissioner who have closed police stations, cut local transport, failed to invest in local infrastructure and failed many of our kids in school. Suffolk Needs Change, "Business as usual" just will not do - it is now time to stop the rot and invest in our future. You can read our full manifesto here. It is mercifully short and packed with proposals that would make our County a better place to live
