More protection for our countryside

September 27, 2020 11:45 AM

9r4aWe are privileged to live in such a beautiful part of the country, much of which is recognised as areas of outstanding natural beauty ( AONB) Such areas are designated exceptional landscape whose distinctive character and natural beauty are precious enough to be safeguarded in the national interest. AONBs are protected and enhanced for nature, people, business and culture.

You may not have noticed but the area protected by such designation in Suffolk was extended recently as you can see from the accompanying map

Liberal Democrat Councillor David Wood who is chair of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Partnership commented when the news was confirmed

"It's been several months now since we received the fantastic news that we've been campaigning over 20 years for - that the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty was officially extended. The announcement came at a time in the Summer when as a country we were starting to ease out of the first phases of lockdown, and meant that we weren't able to have the celebration we might like to have had with you all and officially welcome you to this fantastic National Landscape. We've taken lots of our communication and engagement online and hope that this works for you as a way of keeping you up to date with the work the whole AONB Partnership are doing across the glorious landscape."
