Change of Name?

You may have seen that there has been a proposal out for consultation that Babergh Council should change its name to South Suffolk.

The District Council has been existence since 1974 but some Councillors believe that people from further afield are often unaware of exactly where Babergh is and even struggle over its pronunciation. It is proposed that by renaming to South Suffolk, the council can be clear about who they are, where they are and what they represent - without confusion.

Having listened to local views the Liberal Democrat group on the Council have decided NOT to support the proposal. At a time when local services are under such pressure with reduced funding seeing bus services cut and social services stretched it is surely irresponsible to consider spending our scarce resources on creating new logos and re-branding all of the Councils signage, vehicles etc. There really are much bigger issues we should be focusing on
