Save the Children have shown that the latest exam results show that only 23% of the poorest children in Suffolk managed 5 A*-C grades including maths & english while it was 51% for better off pupils.
The Liberal Democrats are proposing extra resources for schools for students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The new money for schools, £26million, in Suffolk would be used for smaller class sizes, one to one tuition and classroom support and go direct to schools.
Nigel Bennett South Suffolk Lib Dem PPC said,
"Every child deserves a fair start at school and the gap in attainment is too great based on social background. Only the Lib Dems are proposing the resources to help schools give each child that fair start. The extra money will benefit all children and is fully paid for by other savings in government spending outside schools."
