Local schools with Sixth forms have discovered they have had at least a £50,000 cut to their budgets due to a last minute cut by the Learning & Skills Council (LSC).
Schools discovered on the 31st March that the cut in funding had occured. Many schools had already set their budget and are now in a dilemma on what to do with staffing and planned improvements.
"Schools are seeing more students staying on in education in a time of recession and the Government quite rightly wants an improved skills base SO this last minute, totally unexpected cut is shocking and needs correcting. This is similar to the mistake made by the Government on under estimating University numbers and seeing less students getting grants." said Nigel Bennett Parliamentary Campaigner for South Suffolk, adding
"The Government and its quangos need to improve their basic maths and learn to add up as they go along."
